UNIMILK products make a big splash with

                  combifitSmall with combiSmart screw cap

Globally, demand for convenience products is growing, and the food sector is no exception to this trend. Packaged food products must be quick and easy to prepare, and fit in today’s busy lifestyle. Also, consumers are demanding the products be packaged with practical handling and convenient opening solutions. And, with combifitSmall fitted with combiSmart, the screw cap for small package sizes, SIG Combibloc is responding to this consumer demand.

Under the brand name ‘Shadrinskoe’, UNIMILK is the first company to offer Russian consumers condensed milk in the attractive combifitSmall 300 ml aseptic carton with a convenient screw cap. The package clearly distinguishes itself among all the other condensed milk products on the retail shelves.

This young, fast-growing company is a pioneering force when it comes to design and development. UNIMILK constantly monitors the latest international food and beverage trends, so that the company can quickly respond to consumer demands by developing intelligent product concepts from its state-of-the art production facility. UNIMILK currently produces more than one million tonnes of dairy products per year in Russia and the Ukraine, attaining a market share of 15 percent. UNIMILK owns 27 regional dairy firms and production facilities.

Perfectly measured

Diana Bechtold, Market Segment Manager at SIG Combibloc, says: “the global markets indicate that condensed milk is being used in many countries for cooking and baking as well as an additive to coffee and tea drinks. Even though it is a niche segment within liquid dairy, it represents an attractive market for manufacturers due to the fact that consumption habits and volumes are expected to remain relatively stabile in the coming years. Moreover, one of the major challenges for manufacturers has been the relative uniformity of packaging designs and the lack of convenience features offered to the final consumer. With UNIMILK’s recent launch of condensed milk in combifitSmall 300 with a convenient screw cap, the category shelve presentation has dramatically changed, with the aseptic carton clearly standing out among the many standard range canned alternatives.

“Until now, condensed milk has only been sold in cans in Russia “says Elena Sveshnikova, Corporate Communications Manager at UNIMILK. “Right from the beginning we where convinced about the significant innovation potential of the recloseable aseptic carton offered by SIG Combibloc. Utilizing combifitSmall with the combiSmart screw cap, we finally found a solution that supports our brand image in an attractive package that delivers the necessary convenience our consumers are demanding.

The ease with which the CFA 712 filling machine and the combiSmart applicator can switch the carton format from combifitSmall to combiblocSmall, and the flexibility in volume (ranging from 200, 250, 300, 330 and 350 ml), was yet another reason for UNIMILK to decide to chose SIG Combibloc. As Elena Sveshnikova says: “In the future, we will be offering not only condensed milk, but also cream in combifitSmall 200 ml with combiSmart.”

Ideal for on-the-go

The combifitSmall carton with combiSmart screw cap is not just a handy package solution for use in the kitchen, it is also a solution for active lifestyles and on-the-go beverage consumption.  “After the first market introduction in early 2007, today we have many customers throughout Europe who have upgraded their existing packaging to offer consumers more convenience,” says Diana Bechtold, “Inspired by the possibilities of a small size carton package with a matching opening solution, there are many companies around the world currently investigating their competitive potentials within a wide product range of applications; and, I am convinced that we will shortly see many innovative packaging concepts find their way onto the retail shelves.”
